My Story

"Create joy. Live gently. Inspire change."

The three words I try to live by — and the whole reason The Velvet Twist exists.

How It Started

It began with a brownie - and a KitchenAid I wanted badly enough to earn

I started baking at 13, mostly for the fun of it. The very first thing I ever made was a batch of brownies. What kept me going, though, was a very specific goal: I wanted to save up and buy myself a KitchenAid mixer. So I did what any determined 13-year-old would do — I started selling what I made.

It didn’t take long before friends and family started asking for more than just a taste. What began as pocket-money brownies for people close to me slowly turned into something people were willing to place real orders for.

Where The Name Came From

I never wanted a name that would box me into just baking, or just art

I’ve always loved creating with my hands — decorating a cake one day, handcrafting something the next — so I needed a name that could grow with me, not limit me.

Velvet

Is the feeling I hope every creation leaves behind — soft, comforting, thoughtful, made with love. It’s not just about how a cake feels in your hand, but about the warmth it brings the person receiving it.

Twist

Is my personality. I’ve always loved adding my own creative spin to what I make — an unexpected flavour, an unusual design, a small handcrafted detail that makes each piece feel like nobody else’s.

A simple batch of brownies — made for fun, with no idea it would turn into anything more. Ne discipulum abducam, times. Primum quid tu dicis breve? An haec ab eo non dicuntur?

Friends & Family Started Asking

What started as brownies for people close to me turned into real requests, and that's what made me decide to start taking orders properly.

My Biggest Order So Far

A combined order of brownies and handcrafted sunflowers — the first time baking and handmade art came together in one order.

Nearing Twenty Orders, And Still Counting

Every order still gets the same care as that very first box of brownies.

Behind The Maker

A Few Things About Me

Hi, I’m Saanvi Dayakar, the creator behind The Velvet Twist.
I started this journey at thirteen with one dream—to buy my own KitchenAid mixer. What I found along the way was something far more meaningful: a love for creating moments that bring people together.
Today, every cake, brownie, handcrafted flower, and personalised hamper is thoughtfully made to celebrate life’s little joys. And one day, I hope this journey grows into a cosy, earth-friendly café where homemade bakes, creativity, and sustainability come together under one roof.

"My toddler just wouldn't stop eating the cookies! They were soft, fresh, and the perfect size for little hands. We definitely need a bigger box next time!"

Where This Is All Headed

The Dream

One day, I’d love to open a cosy, earth-friendly café — serving great coffee, homemade bakes, and simple savouries, in a space that feels as warm as the food does.

The Bigger Idea

I want that café to also showcase art made from waste — so people don’t just leave happier, they leave with one new idea for how to treat our planet a little more gently.
